Three other men were left injured in the incident

A Union Parishad (UP) member has been killed during a clash over election in Rangamati’s Kaptai upazila.

Three other men were left injured in the incident which took place around 11:30pm on Tuesday, confirmed Kaptai police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasir Uddin.

The deceased is Sajibur Rahman, 50, who was elected twice in a row as UP of Kaptai union. The injured are – Md Alauddin, 45, Md Salauddin, 55, and Abdul Jalil. All residents of the same area.

A scuffle between two groups turned into a clash which left four injured including Sajibur. They were rushed to the local health complex where on-duty doctors declared Sajibur dead, said the OC.


Kaptai Health Department Resident Medical Officer Dr Omar Farooq Rony said one of the injured has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The other two are undergoing treatment at the health complex.

Rangamati Additional Superintendent of Police Tapas Ranjan Ghosh also confirmed the incident and said that the superintendent of police had left Rangamati for Kaptai.
